Fairs/Blog

Our Art2enjoy Craft fairs and my blog are an important way of meeting people and interacting with them. It really warms my heart to meet people who share my passion for the arts. Whilst making sales is an economic necessity, it is really the sharing of my art that keeps me motivated. Do what you love to do.....life is short and sweet!

I'm delighted to be able to join The York Art Society soon. It's an organisation I have admired for many years. It's been an important part of the York art scene for decades. I have given them paid demonstrations and a workshop in recent years and I found the artists receptive and very talented. It will be lovely to spend time with them informally.

This is a blast from the past. I donated a commissioned painting of the Yorkshire Rows ladies, who rowed across the Atlantic. I had the pleasure of sitting with one of the rowers and met the others. I was interviewed by radio York on the night. I donated prints and we raised over £2000 pounds on the night for a cancer charity. Caroline Higginbottom was the lovely lady who organised and initiated the event. It was her wonderful idea.

A recent visit to Chester Zoo was very inspiring. It’s been 20 years since our last visit and it's grown a lot. The big five are always popular with me, giraffe, elephants, lion…. rhinos….. but there's so much more to see. Chester Zoo has recently unveiled a major new exhibit and made other significant changes. Here's a summary of what's new:

* Heart of Africa Zone: This is the zoo's largest-ever development, spanning 22.5 acres. It's designed to replicate the grasslands of Central Africa and is home to 57 different species. For the first time, visitors can see northern giraffes, Grevy's zebras, roan antelopes, and ostriches all living together in a vast open savannah. The zone also includes a "Hidden Savannah" indoor habitat with naked mole rats, and over 30 species of birds, including a flock of greater flamingos.
* The Reserve: As part of the Heart of Africa zone, the zoo has launched "The Reserve," a luxury overnight accommodation with 51 safari-style lodges. Guests can stay overnight and have views of the giraffe savannah or a lakeside setting.
* New Animal Arrivals: The zoo has welcomed several new animals, including a rare baby okapi (also known as the "African unicorn"), and the first-ever snow leopard cub born at the zoo. Rare birds that are extinct in the wild have also hatched at the zoo, and they've welcomed a new species of tiny orange monkey for the first time.

I just started this blog section!

News
I had a lovely exhibition at the York City Screen Cinema this month. The staff and manager are lovely. They made me feel most welcome. The exposure drove a lot of traffic to this website. I always feel that my art isn't alive until someone sees it. The exhibition was called ‘A Love of Animals' by Iain Will, York Artist.

New paintings
I'm working on a large painting of Scarborough, from the south bay looking across at the Scarborough castle. The latter was attacked during WW1 by naval vessels. It was a barracks for service men.

My Whitby Dracula painting is now finished. Dracula landed in Whitby, in Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula. I featured Dracula in the grounds of Whitby Abbey, in the company of the character, Lucy.

I also started a painting of Shakespeare’s play The Winter's Tale. It's 3 of 3 paintings, and is from act V, when Hermione, Leontes's wife, transforms from a statue into flesh and blood. It's part of our Visual Shakespeare Project.

Paris Event
I will be visiting Paris later this year, as part of The Visual Shakespeare Project. I will display two paintings in The Theatre du Nord Ouest and we will perform Shakespeare recitals. Rodolphe Fonty is orchestrating the event. At least 6 people will take part, with excerpts from Antony and Cleopatra. It explores their turbulent relationship.
